So I've played around with the updated model of Mary the Dinosaur, and I've also tested out nCloth with the model.
I made the mesh of Mary the Passive Collider as well as played around with the settings, such as the Bend Resistance, Stretch Resistance and Rigidity etc. I played around with the settings until what I saw was an accurate representation of cloth. I plan on rendering the Apron and Mary on different render layers. This is so that should the model clip through the apron or vice versa, I can composite the error out of the final product.

This is the second character for our Final Year Project, she's a female dinosaur named Mary. Modeled by the group's modeller
She's the wife of the other dinosaur and the one who always helps him put his spectacles on. So, the lighting set up is similar to the other dinosaur, having mainly 4 spotlights. One being the 'key', another being the 'fill', another to light the back of Mary as she is a fairly long dinosaur and finally a warm bounce light below her. We were originally planning to animate the apron, but we later decided to switch to using ncloth and simulate it instead, as she would be appearing only for a few shots. I will be updating Mary with the nCloth test next. :) Seeing as how the models are pretty much fully textured except for a few finer details such as the specular of the eye etc., I decided to get a headstart by trying to light our dinosaur, Reggie.
Currently there does not seem to be any issues such as unwanted creases or shadows, which is a really good sign. The next thing I would like try out is to light Reggie's walkcycle when the team's animator has fully polished it. Here's to hoping that constraining the 4 lights I have to their respective controllers won't mess up what I currently have. :) One of my assignments for my 'Advanced Drawing' Module required me to gender bend a character, so I chose to gender bend Chrom from the game Fire Emblem.
I was really torn between different ways to light the character, so I tried experimenting with different color palletes, and I finally decided on the one with a higher contrast overall. I plan on updating the piece with more defined shadows and better creases on the fabric. I made some progress on the study I was doing previously, this time I wanted to get the overall look of the piece. My favorite time of the day is around the time the sun sets, so I tried replicating
I started with the fill colors and then I added the light and some cast shadows. I plan on blending the shadows more perhaps add more detail to the shading of the walls. Also perhaps adding more contrast in the piece. During the break, I had some downtime so I decided to doodle a little charcter which I liked in a video game, called Fire Emblem Fates.
I always enjoy having a really obvious light source in my drawings as well as having a tinge of color as the ambient light. In this case, a red ambient light. I've started a second study for environmental drawings, and I chose a pretty easy one this time, since for this one I wanted to mainly focus on the rendering and measurements, I chose a picture with little depth.
So with this piece I did the same steps with my previous study. I made sure to familiarise myself with the scale of the different props by viewing it from a different angle with a fast sketch and then I started with the lineart. Hi there, Fariz here again, now with the colored drafts for the Environments of Tie-Rex. I discussed with the other group members, and we unanimously decided that we needed to populate the place even more.
I had a very warm setting in mind while coloring the set, thats the reason why the environment has a tinge of red in every room. Hi there! Fariz here, back again with some environmental art. This time, some pre-production for my Final Year Project. I was in charge of designing the environment for our short film, Tie-Rex, Its mainly about a dinosaur trying to get his pair of spectacles on. Seeing how as the characters are dinosaurs I decided to make the house more accustomed to them, mainly making the place look more prehistoric; stones everywhere. The props in the set are also made of very primitive materials such as rocks or wood.
I aim to finish the color scheme of the entire set by the next post. Thank you very much for reading my posts. As for my first blog post, I would like to first say what kind of content I will be posting. I will mainly be posting about my environmental studies. Some steps I took in trying to improve myself in the aspect of environmental illustration, which I am currently really weak at. So for my first environmental study, I started small; I took an image online of a cafe and tried to replicate it. At first trying to visualize it from different views and understanding it not just from one view but as an overall structure. I learned this method of study from an artist whom I really admire named, Krenz Cushart and it really helped me in terms of understanding the proper proportions of the pillars, chairs etc.
